Winston Churchill is a man that needs no introduction. However, here is a little introduction. ?During World War 2, Churchill, as the prime minister, led the United Kingdom to success. World War 2 was a global war that started in 1939 to 1945. It was a deadly war that included over 30 countries and the deaths of more than 50 million people. Civilians died, men in the military died and animals used to aid the war died. It was a gruesome and hostile time. Nonetheless, Churchill rose to the top and brought the United Kingdom from defeat to triumph. Winston Churchill was born into an aristocratic family in 1874 and was raised in Dublin, Ireland. As a student, Churchill struggled. He was described as ?rebellious? and ?independent.? He soon pursued a career in military and joined the British Royal Military College. While serving in the army, he wrote military reports for newspapers. He was both a writer and a fighter. In 1899, Churchill worked as a war correspondent for the Morning Post. During his reports, he was taken prisoner in South Africa during the Boer War. After his long escape, in 1999, ?he wrote a book about his experiences. His book was titled London to Ladysmith. It spoke about the second Boer War. His career in government started in 1990. He joined the Parliament in the COnservative Party for a small town in Manchester, Oldham. After time serving for the conservative party, he felt that they didn?t care and opted to help out the Liberals. He soon became a member of the parliament and joined the Prime Minister?s cabinet. Here, he helped pass the People?s Budget in addition to various things. Churchill was viewed as controversial when he arrived at a police siege and give advice. He demonstrated his ability to deal with matters at hand and really get involved. During the years 1919 to 1922, he was the minister of war and air, ?and colonial secretary. After some other controversies, he joined the Conservative party again. In 1929, the Conservative government was defeated and Churchill pursued his writing. When World War 2 began, Churchill rose up again. He was a voice who spoke for the British Rearmament. Thereafter he was the first lord of admiralty and was a part of the war cabinet. Later he became chairman of the Military Coordinating Committee. After the Norwegian crisis occurred and the former Prime Minister, Chamberlain, was voted no on, Churchill was nominated as Prime Minister and minister of defense. He worked with Conservative and Liberal men to help him during this difficult time. He collaborated with leaders to create a game plan that would work against the axis powers. Ultimately, he is notorious for his speech that touches on an idea of an ?iron curtain.? He will always be known for successfully leading Britain through World War 2.
